BHS Senior Erin Owens Just Won The “Mickey D” Award

The recipient for the 2014-2015 “Mickey D” Award is Erin Owens of Bloomington High School!

Erin is the daughter of Rita Poore of Bloomington. The “Mickey D” Award is given to a high school senior from the surrounding Bloomington/Normal area that excels in leadership, citizenship, scholarship, and sportsmanship. The selection process determined that Erin was the individual that best portrayed what the “Mickey D” Award
stands for.

Each winner receives a plaque and there is a traveling plaque with their name on it, $25.00 in McDonald’s gift certificates, a $200.00 VISA gift card from Heartland Bank and other prizes from WBNQ.

Owens is extremely involved in her school and community helping her to receive the prestigious award. Currently Owens is a member of Track and Field, Basketball Teams, Peer Tutoring and HYPE (Helping Youth Progress and Excel). Academic Advisor, Sona Chalian, states that Erin is responsible, committed, helpful and maintains a can do
attitude are all the words that come to mind when describing this motivated and talented young woman.

For example Owens is enroll in a peer tutoring group where she has learned patience and the ability to adapt unexpected changes. Owens is always willing to help and support other students in and outside the classroom. During Owen’s junior year she decided to enroll in the Bloomington Area Career Center Nursing Assistant Program
she was accepted and now is working toward her Certified Nursing Exam in the spring.
