New York City (and the nation) witnessed history on Sunday night, August 28, when the 2016 MTV Video Music Awards took over Madison Square Garden. From Beyoncé’s killer Lemonade medley to Drake admitting his love to Rihanna, it was yet night of memories. If you missed out on the big show, Archie Jay has you covered with the best highlights from the night. Check them out!
1. Beyonce Takes Over
Queen Bey showed us who wears the crown at this year’s MTV Video Music Awards. Performing some songs from her Lemonade album, it was basically a free concert of the “Formation” tour. She sang “Pray You Catch Me,” “Hold Up,” “Sorry,” “Don’t Hurt Yourself,” and “Formation.
2. Michael Phelps Talks His Viral “Phelps Face”
Weeks ago during the Rio Olympics, Gold Metal Snatcher himself went viral for a face he was making while listening to music and he finally revealed that song that got him in the zone was “Stick Talk” by Future.

3. Nick Jonas Has A Celebrity Bacon Party
Nick Jonas performed his newest single “Bacon” while he kicked things off in a diner, AN ACTUAL DINER! The Tick Tock diner. And he invited all his celeb friends like brother Joe Jonas and DNCE, Odell Beckham Jr, and more.
4. Britney’s Big VMA’s Return
It’s been nine years since her horrible “Gimme More” performance in 2007. Britney returned to VMA stage with G-Eazy for a mash-up performance of “Make Me” and the rapper’s hit, “Me, Myself & I.” It was slightly awkward to watch, but nonetheless, she did the best she could and the glittery outfit made it all the better.
5. Moment Of Silence For Kanye
People were scared to hear Kanye was getting four minutes on stage, but Kanye West at the VMAs did not disappoint. He began his speech talking about his “Famous” music video and the controversy it gained. He even shocked us all when he shouted out Ray J and his ex Amber Rose! But in all seriousness, he spoke about his, and other celebs’ influences to the world. “It’s three keys to keeping people impoverished, that’s taking away their esteem, taking away their resources and taking away their role models. My role models are artists, merchants, less than 10 that I can name in history: Truman, Ford, Hughes, Disney, Jobs, West.” He ended, “We are undeniably the influence, the thought leaders. I’m gonna play ya’ll a piece of my art and I just hope ya’ll have a good time.” Finally, he played his new video “Fade” starring Teyana Taylor and Iman Shumpert and man, was this video memorable!
6. Ariana Grande and Nicki Minaj “Side To Side”
It was really too hot to handle and if you put these two sexy divas together, there really aren’t much words to say… So I suggest we all just watch.

7. Nick Jonas’ Bulge?
Yes, he performed well at a diner, but during his new single of “Bacon” the world couldn’t help but notice his “package.”
8. Halsey Almost Made Out With Drew Of Chainsmokers
9. Drake’s Love For Rih Rih
Rihanna gave a great career-spanning four-part performance in honor of receiving this year’s Michael Jackson Video Vanguard Award. She sang many of her hits from over the last decade. But the best moment was being presented with the actual award by her boo, Drake. He stated “She’s someone I’ve been in love with since I was 22 years old. She’s one of my best friends in the world.”
