There were a few extra sleepy muggles around the office today, as the Saturday midnight release of a new Harry Potter book/play kept many fans up reading until the very wee hours. I started my copy at Sunday noon, and finished at 8:30pm that same night. I’m already so sad it is over, as J.K Rowling has said this is really really it, and there won’t be anything more.

Rowling said, “He goes on a very big journey during these two plays and then, yeah, I think we’re done.”

Harry Potter and the Cursed Child picks up 19 years after the end of the original series, with a middle-aged Potter working in the Ministry of Magic and his son, Albus, entering the wizarding world for the first time. Based on an original new story by J.K. Rowling, Jack Thorne and John Tiffany, Harry Potter and the Cursed Child is a new play by Jack Thorne. It is the eighth story in the Harry Potter series and the first official Harry Potter story to be presented on stage. It was always difficult being Harry Potter and it isn’t much easier now that he is an overworked employee of the Ministry of Magic, a husband and father of three school-age children.

Tickets are now sold out for Harry Potter and the Cursed Child at The Globe theater in London. Further tickets will be released on 4 August 2016, for performances through to 10 December 2017. Harry Potter and the Cursed Child is one play presented in two Parts, which are intended to be seen in order on the same day (matinee and evening) or on two consecutive evenings. No word has been given about a US run or international tour of the show yet. According to Suzi Davis Travel owner Tim Davis, the plane tickets to London are pretty inexpensive right now, so don’t give up hope going to see this in Harry’s homeland of the UK.

So that means for now we can only read the book, which is really a script, and it is available at the library, hard copy, and digital download through your favorite providers. As I mentioned before, I read it yesterday, and I can’t wait to read it again. No spoilers here, because that would ruin the lovely journey you should set on reading this show. All my fears of the script following the wrong characters in the wrong direction were incorrect. You get even more of the world of grown up Harry Potter that was briefly teased at the end of Book 7 (Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Book), while learning about next generation and their challenges keeping the Wizard World safe from dark magic and you know who!

I can’t say much more for fear of letting a spoiler go by accident, but never fear HP fans. There is another great wizard movie just around the corner in November! Fantastic Beasts looks great.
