What if Fashion Dolls Were Made Using Standard Human Body Proportions?

That was the question asked by artist and researcher Nickolay Lamm through a crowdfunding campaign. The answer was more than 13,621 backers signing on to, preorder over 19,000 dolls which started shipping out to the world in November of 2014.

The Lammily Doll–dubbed “Normal Barbie” because of her more realistic body proportions–is now really getting even more real.

Yesterday, Lammily announced that it would start selling $10 “Period Party” accessory kits that will give the doll’s users everything they need to learn about menstruation. The package includes a pair of doll underwear, 19 brightly colored feminine hygiene pads, an educational pamphlet, and a calendar and stickers to track the doll’s cycle.

On average, a woman between the ages of 12 and 51 spends a total of 6 years on her menstrual period.

Yet, while being a huge part of female life, this perfectly healthy natural process is still surrounded with taboos.

Let’s start an open and positive conversation about our periods.

Includes…

1 educational pamphlet
1 pair of panties, fits Lammily doll
18 reusable colored pads and liners stickers
1 calendar & dot stickers

Warning: Choking hazard. Not for children under 3 years old.

The company debuted a hilarious two-minute ad yesterday that shows a preteen girl’s dorky parents trying to teach her about menstruation through rap–the decidedly less-cool option for learning about periods.

Bravo Lammily! The discussion of menstruation should not be so taboo, considering half the population does it, and it is entirely normal part of life.
And thank you for not going literal with a doll who leaks red water. This doll does not make messes.
