This guy really does have a point.
A bald YouTube user named DarkAntics is complaining against the “pervasive negative portrayal of bald people” in movies and the idea that they are somehow “damaged”.
Examples include:
- Superman’s Lex Luthor
- Daredevil’s Bullseye
- Star Wars’ Darth Maul
- The Dark Knight Rises’ Bane
- Harry Potter’s Voldemort
The list goes on and on….
He says in his video:
“I’m bald, therefore I’m evil or somehow damaged. This notion has seeped into every pour of our media and believe me I fully expect you to sit there blind to your hair privilege and not have any understanding of how this pervasive negative portrayal of bald people has affected your bias.”
During his tongue-in-cheek rant he does have a small list of positive characters who are not “hair privileged”, like Captain Jean-Luc Picard in Star Trek.
I will then add in Patrick Stewart as Professor Xavier in X-Men. Same actor, but that isn’t the point. There are far less lovers than fighters on the screen without bangs. (Do guys have bangs? Hmmm. Sounded so deep when I wrote it)
Check yourself for knee jerk reactions to those around you who may not be bald by choice. Are you jumping to conclusions because Hollywood told you to?
