Starbucks Changing In Store Code Of Conduct

Customers are not required to buy something not just loiter

Starbucks is reversing its 2018 policy allowing customers to sit and use restrooms without making a purchase.

The new code of conduct, set to take effect this month, requires customers to buy something. The policy change is aimed at reducing loitering and messes, which employees said were common issues under the previous policy.

The company will be posting signs prohibiting various behaviors, including violence, vaping, drug use, consumption of outside alcohol, harassment, discrimination and panhandling.

The code of conduct warns that violators will be asked to leave, and says the store may call law enforcement, if necessary. Starbucks said employees would receive training on enforcing the new policy.
