‘The Idol”, produced and cowritten by The Weeknd, is coming soon to HBO Max
At first, all we knew was that HBO was going to release a music industry drama series called The Idol, and it stared Lily-Rose Depp and Abel “The Weeknd” Tesfaye. Cool.
The we learned it was also coproduced and written by The Weeknd. Super cool.
Now we know a wee bit more, thanks to a new teaser trailer that just came out this weekend.
Co-created by Euphoria creator Sam Levinson, Tesfaye and Reza Fahim, The Idol is set against the backdrop of the music industry in Los Angeles. It follows a female pop singer who starts a romance with an enigmatic L.A. club owner who is the leader of a secret cult.
Also in the cast are some well known names: Suzanna Son, Troye Sivan, Moses Sumney, Jane Adams, Dan Levy, Jennie Ruby Jane, Eli Roth, Rachel Sennot, Hari Nef, Da’Vine Joy Randolph, Mike Dean, Ramsey and Hank Azaria. The show underwent a creative overhaul in April with the director exiting. Now we have had two teasers, and still no release date.
The Weeknd fans will probably find out first, as he has been releasing little info bits during his concert tour shows. No matter when this shows up, I’m sure we will be watching!
