Marvin Aday-A.K.A MEATLOAF Died Thursday With His Family By His Side
R.I.P. Meatloaf: The Grammy award winning singer has died at the age of 74.
TMZ is reporting he passed away from the Coronavirus.
His family released a statement saying, “Our hearts are broken to announce that the incomparable Meat Loaf passed away tonight surrounded by his wife Deborah, daughters Pearl and Amanda and close friends. We know how much he meant to so many of you and we truly appreciate all of the love and support as we move through this time of grief in losing such an inspiring artist and beautiful man. We thank you for your understanding of our need for privacy at this time. From his heart to your souls…don’t ever stop rocking!”
Meat Loaf was one of the great rock singers of all time. His 1977 “Bat Out of Hell” album sold an astounding 65 million copies and produced many hits. When MEATLOAF released a sequel over 15 years later — “Bat Out of Hell II: Back Into Hell” – we were introduced to “I’d Do Anything for Love (But I Won’t Do That),” which went to number one and gave him a Grammy for Best Solo Rock Vocal Performance.
Meat Loaf was also a genuinely great actor, appearing in a ton of movies and TV shows, including “The Rocky Horror Picture Show,” “Spice World: The Movie” and “Fight Club” He also performed in the musical “Hair,” both on and off-Broadway.
His real name was Marvin Lee Aday. As for how he acquired the name, Marvin’s football coach named him Meat Loaf because of his weight. His first band was called Meat Loaf Soul, but he was a vegetarian for many years.
