Trader Joe’s founder Joe Coulombe dies at age 89

Trader Joe’s founder, Joe Coulombe, died Saturday in Pasadena after suffering a long-term illness.  He was 89-years-old.

Opening the first Trader Joe’s in Southern California in 1967, Coulombe’s ability to spot trends among shoppers allowed him to target those were “overeducated but underpaid”. Trader Joe’s now has 500 locations across 42 states.
