Disney’s “Onward” will feature an openly LGBTQ animated character voiced by Lena Waithe.
The character will be a purple cyclops who is a Police Officer SPECTER that references her girlfriend when she pulls over a distracted driver.
“My girlfriend’s daughter got me pulling my hair out,” the character, Officer Specter says.
Onward will follow the story of two elf brothers (voiced by Tom Holland and Chris Pratt), who embark on a quest together.
While this will be Disney’s first animated character to be LGBTQ, Disney has featured a few other LGBTQ characters in their live-action films.
Twitter’s reaction wasn’t as positive as executives had hoped for.
Twitter: omg make that blonde ice princess a lesbian pls
Disney: no. But we can make this cyclop-unicorn hybrid minor character cop on this new movie a lesbian (?) if you want… pic.twitter.com/k02f8lvb9q
