On Sunday, McDonald’s made an announcement of the “first fully food-backed global currency,” but it’s not a Bitcoin alternative.
It’s a collectible coin coupon for a free BIG MAC!
To commemorate the burger milestone, the company will issue 6.2 million “MacCoins” ( 14,000 restaurants in 50 countries) to customers who purchase a Big Mac starting August 2 that can be redeemed for a free sandwich. Earlier this month, McDonald’s announced it would give away a free order of French fries every Friday to customers who use its mobile app and spend more than $1 on their order.
The company is trying to improve what has been a little down turn on Wall street, while changing the headlines from sickening salads. So far it’s working!
The McDonald’s “Big Mac” rolled out to customers nationwide 50 years ago this summer. Who hasn’t tried two all-beef patties, special sauce, lettuce, cheese, onions, pickles on a sesame seed bun at least once? The BIG MAC was actually introduced by a Pennsylvania McDonald’s franchisee in 1967 — 51 years ago, but now it is so popular, 17 Big Macs are sold every second around the world.
