New Keyboard That Is Crumb & Drink-Proof

According to Huh Magazine, Last week it came to light that two years ago, Apple quietly filed a patent for a product a lot of us would appreciate – a crumb, dirt, and liquid proof keyboard.

Yassss! How many times do we spill food on our keyboards, no matter how much you try not  to, it happens.

According to the patent, published by the US Patent and Trademark Office, the keyboard would feature “brushes, wipers, or flaps” that prevent contaminants from entering the keyboard, which can cause corrosion, block electrical contacts, or prevent key movement. “Solid contaminants (such as dust, dirt, food crumbs, and like) may lodge under keys, blocking electrical contacts, getting in the way of key movement,” it reads.

“Various methods are listed for making the device work, including a barrier between the keyboard and the inside of the computer, a protective “skirt” to protect the keyboard actuator, and miniature “bellows” situated under each key with would force crumbs out the gaps.”

Apple files plenty of patents that never actually turn into real products, so don’t hold your breathe, but we certainly have our fingers crossed for this one.
