The Consumer Product Safety Commission Has New Orders For AMAZON
Amazon is under scrutiny for selling hazardous third-party items.
According to a Tuesday vote from the Consumer Product Safety Commission, the e-commerce giant had distributed faulty items packed and shipped through their own fulfillment center.
With this, Amazon is now considered to be legally responsible for over 400,000 recalled products.
According to ABC News, these products include ” hairdryers and defective carbon monoxide detectors.”
“Amazon accounts for roughly 40% of e-commerce sales in the U.S., according to the market research firm Emarketer. The company sells many items directly to consumers and also partners with nearly 2 million third-party sellers, who drive the majority of the sales on the platform. The online retailer has fought the “distributor” label since 2021, when the Consumer Product Safety Commission filed an administrative complaint against the company for distributing hazardous items.”
The Commission’s ruling stated that AMAZON “did not take adequate steps to encourage” consumers to return or dismantle these products, opening them up for possible injuries.
