A months-long legal battle over the phrase ‘Taco Tuesday’ is over.

The phrase has long been legally trademarked by the fast food chain Taco John’s for 34 years, but earlier this year, rival chain Taco Bell lobbied the government to cancel the trademark, arguing that ‘Taco Tuesday’ is a commonly used phrase that should be “freely available to all”.

This week, Taco John’s announced that it would abandon the trademark to avoid paying millions of dollars in legal fees. “We’ve always prided ourselves on being the home of Taco Tuesday, but paying millions of dollars to lawyers to defend our mark just doesn’t feel like the right thing to do.” – TACO JOHN’s CEO Jim Creel said in a statement

“TACO TUESDAY” is now open for all signs, ads, and more. Enjoy!
