Netflix Could Add A New Charge to Your Bill
Netflix has thought of a new way to stop you from sharing your password.
According to a statement, the streaming platform will test an “add a home” feature where users will be asked to pay an additional fee if they see the account being used away from home for two weeks.
The charge will be $2.99 and there’s talk that soon you’ll be able to track who is using your account and even stop someone from having access to the account at all.
The support pages also go into more detail about how Netflix determines a “home,” defined as “a physical location – like your house – where you can use your Netflix on any of your devices.” Netflix explains that your use of Netflix on a TV outside your home while “traveling” is eligible without an extra charge for up to two weeks, “as long as your account has not been previously used in that location. This is allowed once per location per year.”
Now before you get mad, remember they spent $270 Million on season 4 of STRANGER THINGS, which was really good. And you can avoid this charge if you don’t share your password.
Still miffed over the rising costs, including a recent increase in membership? Netflix is also working on an ad-supported subscription option and, just last week, said it would partner with Microsoft to power its advertisements.
From WEGOTTHISCOVERED.com:
Netflix began to crack down on password sharing and has increased the cost of its subscription plans after the company had a drastic loss in revenue in early 2022. More than 200,000 of its subscribers left the platform and dropped over $54 billion in stock value during the first quarter of 2022. This drastic loss places the company among the worst stock performer on the market this year.
