Brittney Griner’s Wife Is Thanking Supporters After Her Wife Brittney Is Detained In Russia

  • Brittney is currently detained in Russia after hashish oil has been allegedly found in her luggage at an airport in Moscow.

Your prayers and support are greatly appreciated,” Cherelle wrote on Instagram: “I understand that many of you have grown to love BG over the years and have concerns and want details. Please honor our privacy as we continue to work on getting my wife home safely.”
  • Her home team, the Phoenix Mercury, said that they were in “constant contact” with her family and representation with WNBA and NBA.

The Daily Mail reported that Griner played for UMMC Ekaterinburg in Russia before the WNBA took a two-week hiatus in early February for the FIBA World Cup qualifying tournaments. Griner was said to have “made her last communication” in posting a photo to Instagram on Feb. 5.

On Feb. 11, President Joe Biden called on all Americans to evacuate the region. It is believed she was taken into custody around that time, and by Feb. 24, Russia began its invasion of Ukraine.

On March 5, the Russian Federal Customs Service announced that it detained a “two-time Olympic basketball champion” on suspicion of drugs.
