Britney Spears Gets Full Fortune Back, Heads to Trial Against Dad
- Britney Spears’ lawyer, Mathew Rosengert had a fiery exchange with her father’s lawyer, Alex Weingarten on Wednesday (January 19) over the fate of Britney’s fortune and whether or not Jamie Spears used surveillance to monitor Britney during her conservatorship.
- Judge Brenda Penny did rule that Britney would get her assets back, which totals $60 million, without a reserve being held for any payment Jamie would be seeking for lawyer fees.
- Rosengart accused Weingarten of sidestepping the issue of “whether or not his client knew about electronic eavesdropping on my client,” including “the placing of a listening device in the bedroom of my client.” Weingarten accused Rosengart of “planting” the story in the New York Times last year.
- Rosengart told Rolling Stone said the questions about surveillance, “is directly relevant to the issue of whether Mr. Spears would be entitled to any additional money.”
- As it pertains to surveillance, Britney hired accounting and intelligence firm Kroll. Kroll executive Sherine Ebadi, an ex-FBI agent, said she found a “pattern of misconduct” that raises possible “criminal implications.”
- A mini-trial has been scheduled, Judge Penny set a follow-up hearing for June 27 during which both sides will be given the opportunity to argue over the claims.
And just in case you thought we were missing a few details of the current beef between Britney and her sister, well that got heated too this week! After Jamie Lynn Spears spoke out on “Nightline”, Britney Spears shot back on social media. Britney Spears’ legal team has also sent her younger sister a “cease and desist” order.
