Ron Popeil Dies At Age 86
Infomercial King, Ron Popeil, has died.
TMZ claims Ron experienced a severe medical emergency Tuesday and died early Wednesday morning surrounded by his family.
Popeil created the famous Showtime Rotisserie and coined the catch phrases “Set it and Forget it!!!” The product grossed more than a billion dollars in domestic sales.
Popeil also created the Rhinestone Stud Setter, which later became the Bedazzler, as well as Mr. Microphone (the first Karaoke machine), the Popeil Pocket Fisherman, the Buttoneer, the Smokeless Ashtray, Popeil’s Electric Food Dehydrator, the Inside-the-Egg Scrambler, GLH-9 (Great Looking Hair Formula #9) Hair in a Can Spray, the Cap Snaffler, the Popeil Automatic Pasta Maker and the Ronco Electric Food Dehydrator.
In the 1950s, he and his partner, Mel Korey, produced the first minute long commercial for just $500. The product was the Ronco Chop-o-Matic, a gadget created by Popeil’s father.
