This sounds like a scene from a movie. A massive chunk of the iconic mountainside Highway 1 in California has collapsed and sank into the ocean, and new drone video shows the intense damage.
Fortunately no one was on the road at the time, and officials say the road will be closed for quite some time. It will be awhile before crews can work on repairs because the area is still “active” and subject to more landslides.
The video released by the Monterey County Sheriff’s office shows a large part of the highway still flooded and covered with debris from recent rainfall and mudslides.
I think I’ve seen this same scenario in a recent episode of 9-1-1 on Fox recently.
After seeing this, will you ever feel safe driving on a mountainside highway again?
