Charges filed against officer accused of killing George Floyd

The former police officer at the center of violent unrest in Minneapolis has been charged in the killing of George Floyd.

Derek Chauvin was charged Friday with 3rd degree murder and manslaughter.

Hennepin County Attorney Mike Freeman referenced a bystander’s cell phone video, body camera footage, witness statements and the medical examiner’s preliminary report as evidence in the case – saying, “We felt in our professional judgement that it was time to charge and we have so done it.”

Fox News reports Freeman expects charges to also be brought against the other officers involved in the May 25 incident.
