How many years of your life have you spent picking up toys? Two? Three? A billion? In a viral Facebook post, one mom shared why she’s officially done picking up after her kids and she’s “shutting the door” on the never-ending battle to have a clean house. Heidi Hamm wrong her Facebook page (Her View From Home): “I love a clean house. I do. It’s the one thing in my life that I feel like I have complete control over. If my environment is organized, life is just, better. But, kids. They don’t care. I don’t get it. Clearly they are lacking in the clean gene department. I don’t know how many times I have had the same conversation with them. Me: ‘How can you stand it? You can’t even walk in here.’ Kids: ‘Yes we can! We just play hopscotch around the toys.’”

She reveals that one night while she was picking up Legos off of the floor and trying to put them in their color-coordinated boxes, her husband came in with a novel suggestion: “Why don’t you just shut the door?” It sounds easy enough, but we all know it’s not. But on that particular night, she decided to take her husband’s advice.

Now Hamm cleans up her kids’ playroom once a week. The rest of the time it looks like a gigantic mess, and she’s okay with that.

How do you feel about this?
