Fewer households are using bars of soap to lather up these days, and some of the blame goes to millennials.

Most Americans between he ages of 18 to 24 won’t let bar soap touch their faces. Why? 60% of millennials believe that germs live on bars of soap, despite a 1988 study that found washing with contaminated bar soap was unlikely to transfer bacteria. So in other words, they think bar soap is actually dirty!

The state of Minnesota through their Department of Health actually recommends liquid soap vs bar soap for hand washing. I prefer a combo of bar and liquid in the shower, but liquid in every other household sink. When I am sweaty or muddy, there is something of strong smelling bar soap that makes me feel cleaner. Then I finish with something flowery or fruity to make me fresh scented. Am I alone in this????

• Three out of five older Americans (65 and up) think washing one’s face with soap is perfectly fine. On the other hand, 53 percent of women of all ages balk at using soap on their faces, partly because of the perception that it dries out skin.
• Soap sales dropped 2.2 percent from 2014-15 as overall sales of soap, bath and shower products rose by 2.7 percent. Only two-thirds of all consumers in the United States still use soap.
