Memorial Day is the official start to summer! It’s when everyone busts out the grill if they haven’t already, and all the public pools finally open to beat the heat.
Here’s some interesting facts about our country for you to digest while you… digest!
BBQ
A survey by Forza Supplements reveals that barbecues are making people fat. Other findings:
– the average person eats 3,000 calories at a bbq or the equivalent of 1.5 days of food
– 50% of barbecue diners go back for seconds while 12% have had fourth helpings
– most popular BBQ dishes: burgers, sausages, kebabs, steak, chicken drumsticks and lamb chops
– 50% of barbecue diners eat dessert
– Memorial Day weekend is the third biggest grilling occasion of the year behind the Fourth of July (90%) and birthdays (76%)
– 71% of Americans own a grill
– the three foods grilled most often are hamburgers (73%), chicken (41%) and steak (40%).
– grillers consider dessert the most challenging food to grill (35%), followed by fish (30%) and pizza (28%).
Pool Pet Peeves
24% of people say beach chair hogging is their biggest beach and pool pet peeve. Other findings from a survey by Trip Advisor:
– 53% of travelers say its ok to urinate in the ocean if other swimmers aren’t near
– 24% of travelers say its wrong for women to wear skimpy bikinis
– 84% of travelers say it’s unacceptable for people to “save” their chairs by leaving towels on them — and then disappearing.
– 35% of travelers say men should not wear Speedos
– 82% of travelers believe that smoking should be prohibited around the pool, while 62% would like to see it banned on the beach.
– Most Annoying Beach and Pool Etiquette Violations: 1. Blasting loud music 2. Smoking 3. Urinating in the water
Any surprises coming off the list? I couldn’t believe people eat 1 and 1/2 days worth of food at a single BBQ! Also, I save my pool chairs all the time, I didn’t realize I was being a jerk… my bad.
Have a wonderful Memorial Day weekend everyone! -Greg
