After 125 years, a classic American tradition is coming to an end. Known for their crispy crunch, caramel flavor, and being demanded by people who were “taken out to the ball game,” one of America’s first treats is finally ending their signature trademark… the toy in the Cracker Jack box!
Gotta get with the times apparently, as the snack is changing out the standard novelty toys in the boxes for a sticker which contains a digital code for smartphone game downloads. So it’s not gone, just different… however I imagine fans at the baseball stadium in 1899 didn’t see this coming to their beloved ballpark classic…
Frito-Lay, the company behind the iconic brand issued this statement: “The Cracker Jack prize inside has been as much a part of the nostalgia and love for the brand as the unforgettable combination of caramel-coated popcorn and peanuts. The new prize inside allows families to enjoy their favorite baseball moments through a new one-of-a-kind mobile experience, leveraging digital technology to bring the iconic prize inside to life.”
