Taylor Swift is being sued for $42 million for apparently ripping off the lyrics to “Shake It Off”.
R&B singer Jesse Braham has filed a lawsuit claiming she swiped the words from a song he wrote way back in 2013 called “Haters Gone Hate.” Not only does he want $42 million, he also wants his name on the songwriting credits.
The dispute is focused around the chorus in the song: “Cause the players gonna play, play, play, play, play. And the haters gonna hate, hate, hate, hate, hate”, and “And the fakers gonna fake, fake, fake, fake, fake”.
The chorus to Braham’s song has the line: “Haters gone hate, playas gone play. Watch out for them fakers, they’ll fake you everyday.”
If you put the two songs side-by-side, there’s like, literally nothing in common. This dude still thinks, however, that he has a strong case.
Taylor’s reps have yet to comment on the claim.
