I got my new iPhone 6s on Friday. I’m not usually one of the early adopters on stuff like this, but my iPhone 5 had seen better days, so it was time. One of the things that struck me was that the battery life was iffy and it was chewing up a lot of data. A quick trip to My Friend Google turned up a new feature you need to be aware of.
It’s called Wi-Fi Assist, and it uses your data plan to help when the wi-fi signal you’re using is weak. Problem is, that happens more than you think, and it’s killing your data. A friend of mine (not the Jim cat above) used about half his data for the month over the weekend because the wi-fi in his house is terrible. (Also, he has a really low data plan, because he’s cheap. Or maybe dumb. I’m not really sure.)
So, how do you change this? Pretty easy: go to Settings > Cellular > scroll all the way down to the bottom and you’ll find Wi-Fi Assist. Move the slider so it’s white instead of green, and you’re good to go.
Now that I’ve figured THAT out, I can go back to being super in love with my phone…like the incredible nerd I am.
