How exactly does a spacecraft talk to us from 3 billion miles away when my TV reception goes out when it rains?

I was fascinated at the photos taken of the planet Pluto, (not “DWARF PLANET” to me), and the NASA technology that was created so long ago, finally showing its success.

But I couldn’t stop wondering how those pictures got all the way back here!

Luckily, NASA helped us out on that with lovely new video hosted by New Horizons Team member Amy Shira Teitel.

Yes she uses some big words, but if I can follow this, you can too! And in under two minutes of attention span, you have knowledge that you never had before!

Almost 10 years after the spacecraft first embarked on its journey, the NASA New Horizons Twitter account announced, “LOCKED! We have confirmation of a successful Pluto fly-by.”

“Our spacecraft did exactly what it was supposed to do,” said mission operations manager Alice Bowman. “Just like we planned it, just like we practiced.”
