Snow Coming to Central Illinois Tonight [VIDEO]

The National Weather Service predicts that starting tonight we will get snow that could total 1-2 inches of accumulation before it is done Thursday night. While we are getting our first real taste of winter, the folks in Cordova, Alaska are getting pounded with so much snow that they are praying for a break to save their town.
The fishing town of Cordova is digging out from 18 feet of snow. Mayor Jim Kallendar has declared a state of emergency and called in the National Guard. The accumulation is three times the average for the area. The only ways in to Cordova are by boat and plane, and the airport has been closed due to bad weather. Copper River Highway, a 12-mile road that links the town to the airport, was closed due to an avalanche. The 70 National Guard members who arrived did so by ferry. Nome, Alaska is facing a serious shortage of gasoline because a fall shipment was canceled due to ice.
