Bloomington High School grad Zach Bradford won a silver medal in the pole vault in the IAAF World U20 Championships in Finland on Saturday!
Zach was crowned IAAF USA Champion earlier this year with a lifetime best of 18 feet, 2½ inches. That is when Zach hit my radar, and we invited him in to WBNQ to talk about his next big event. Click on the podcast below to relive the fun with this very talented athlete.
Thanks to his mother Joy Bradford, we have a look one of his first ever world competition jumps.
Sweden’s Armand Duplantis, the current world junior record holder at 19-5½, won at 19-1¼, which isn’t too far off from the men’s IAAF Diamond League (Over 20) 2018 Champion – USA’s Sam Kendricks, who won 19 ft 2 1/2 inches. Could Zach Bradford be on a future USA Olympic team with Sam in Toyko in 2020?? He says he has that goal in sight, but for right now he will concentrate on starting his freshman year of college while joining the team at Kansas University.
We will be cheering him on from his home town for years to come!
