Taylor Swift premiered the music video for her song “Out of the Woods” on New Year’s Eve. Knowing all of her videos are now judged in comparison to the elegant and action packed style of her “BAD BLOOD” triumph, the piece reminds us how easy it is to enjoy watching Taylor herself. It begins with stunning footage of the pop star running through the woods and being chased by a pack of wolves. She also endures the cold atop a snowy mountain and crawls through mud in the middle of a lightning storm. At the end, she finds a beach and another version of herself waiting by the shore. Taylor reaches out to touch her lookalike’s shoulder and the screen goes blank. A message fills the screen that reads, “She lost him. But she lost herself. And somehow that was everything.”
The director of Swift’s “Out of the Woods” video took to Twitter on January 1 to reveal that the pop star endured a difficult shoot for the stunning clip. “Taylor was so dedicated to making this video. I was wrapped in snow gear. She was in a dress. She suffered for her art,” Joseph Kahn tweeted.
